That's it. Stay under 20 carbs.

You can not "kind of do" keto.

The metabolic state of ketosis must be maintained and the sure fire way to do this is to stay under 20 NET carbs a day.

How do you calculate net carbs?

Total carbs - Fiber = Net

I have had people tell me they are also on keto but eat a banana every morning. Or that they are going to kind of do keto. All this will do is make you gain more weight. Carbs and fat taste awesome together, but your body does not like to get rid of any of the extra energy it stores if sugar is still available.

Yoda said it best.

I'm not trying to sound like a jerk here or judge, it is just that it becomes unhealthy to high fat AND high carb.

This is what got you where you are when you decided to start keto or even look into it.

Cheese burger with mayo and no bun?

Great. Totally keto friendly.

Cheese burger with bun, ketchup and a side a fries?

Not great. Not keto friendly.

Sugar makes your body create insulin. Insulin stores fat. And yes, bread is sugar.

Stay away from fake sugar for a while too. It just causes sugar cravings which make keto tough. Once you are keto adapted you can totally start up using the correct artificial sugar
