Artificial Sweeteners

I highly suggest that in the first few weeks or so of keto, you stay AWAY from artificial sugars. They can cause cravings. Ditch that sweet tooth now! Life will be much easier.

Below is a huge list of sweeteners, some artificial and some natural. The higher the glycemic index the more it will raise your blood sugar levels. The higher your blood sugar levels the more insulin you make. The more insulin you make the more energy you store as fat.

I highly suggest trying Erythritol, which is a sugar alcohol. It has a super low Glycemic index and taste pretty good taste. You can find it in three forms pretty easy.

Pure Erythritol: You can find this on Amazon (NOW Foods Erythritol Natural Sweetener)

I have NOT tried this yet.

Truvia: Erythritol mixed with stevia

(I preferred this seems to not cause hunger in me.)

Swerve: Erythritol mixed with Oligosaccharides.

Oligosaccharides tend to cause hunger in me. I have noticed it a itty bitty with the use of swerve, but I don’t use that much so it isn’t a problem. Protein bars are a different story though.

I suggest staying AWAY from lab made artificial sugars. Many of them have some adverse effects on SOME people, Sucralose being one of these. Some of people complain about:

Skin Rashes/Flushing

Panic-like Agitation

Dizziness and Numbness

Diarrhea

Swelling

Muscle aches

Headaches

Intestinal cramping

Bladder issues

Stomach pain

**Please be diligent while reading your nutrition labels. MANY low carb foods, or sugar free foods contain things like Maltitol, which WILL RAISE your blood sugar levels and cause hunger! Don’t just assume because it has low net carbs that it is a good choice!**
